Question Hp 9100i CD Writer Plus

I am using a HP 9100i Plus CDRW on a HP Vectra Vli8, running Win NT4 SP5. After installing the CD Writer Plus drivers and the firmware update. I have noticed that the Adaptec icon in the system tray has a Red prohibition symbol over it. Is this normal??

    Thanks

    Hi,
If you right-click on the icon, what do you get? Does it give you any options to Open or Restore? Just curious...
And, no, I don't believe that is a normal indication.

You need to check to see if that model is supported by your software. usually there are updates for different cdr on the software makers site.
Oops, I need to read more carefully. you did get the updates. No you shouldnt't have the red circle. I have used the same writer(in win98 and me)and when it shows read it is not ready. can it read cd's?

    Wink

When I Right click on the icon in the system tray it says 'properties'. I accept it and it brings up a banner asking if I want to display the Adaptec banner at startup??

In win98 the red symbol means it didn't detect a valid cdrw.

Yeah, i saw it was NT. I thought it might be helpful telling what it means in win98 as a starting point.

    Thumbs up

We have the same CD burner in a Dell Optiplex GX1 500mhz system. We had the same problem for a while and came to realize the drive was not setup in the BIOS. Check that out. Also we get Dr. Watson errors everytime we burn a cd. If the amount of data exceeds about 500meg the system totaly crashes. I usually just have to burn less than 100meg of crap that I download from the net. (Usually somethings I shouldn't be downloading in the first place at work) It works fine for that. I haven't had the time to waste to try to locate the problem with it. If I come up with something I will let you know. Hope the BIOS idea helps out. Also check to make sure the ribbon cable is connected properly as per the jumper settings on the drive. Too many times have I seen that where the slave and master jumpers were reversed. The original CD-ROM worked fine but the other wasn't detected. Good Luck...
