Question Office suite....

    Just a quick explanation:

At our church, someone donated money to make a computer lab for teens from our church and the community to be able to use for our Homework Club so they could type papers, do research, etc, and also so we can have classes to train people how to use computers and all.

I, for some reason, am the one that's been putting all of this stuff together. I had a question about an office suite to install. We would like to install Microsoft Office but we can't afford the licensing for all 5 computers. I was looking at either Star Office or Open Office. I've tried Open Office and had some success with it on my home machine, but did run into several bugs and it didn't seem to be the most stable program I've ever used.

Are there any other "free" office suites that will allow you to install on multiple computers w/o having licensing restrictions or whatever that are pretty good?

I hope this post makes some sense. Thanks in advance.

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head with the free software available. If you wait a few months, the new version of Star Office is supposed to be out and from what I read in a magazine article, it's supposed to be pretty good.

You're not going to find anything that you can buy one copy of and install on multiple computers, but you'll get a bit of a discount if you buy one copy of the software and then just extra licenses. That way you don't have to pay extra for manuals, media, and packaging, just the right to use the software. Or make sure some software is bundled with the computers when they are purchased (I'm guessing it's too late for that)

Yea, I knew that about not being able to buy one copy and install it on multiple machines w/o purchasing additional licenses. We actually bought the parts for the computers and built them ourselves (used it as a learning thing for a couple of the guys from the youth group. We let them help us build them so they could learn more about computers. One of them is actually taking a Cisco class at one of the local high schools).

I would wait a few months, but this Wednesday (the 9th) is when it's supposed to be ready to use, so I gotta do something now, but might do that when it comes out later. Thanks for your help.

Try www.software602.com They have a free suite that works fairly well. And you can purchase all the bells and whistles for it for only 30 bucks a system. So cost isn't to much (check out the add ons to see if you actually need them).

Thanks for ya'lls suggestions. I went ahead and installed Open Office on them yesterday afternoon. After playing around with it for a few minutes, I decided that it seemed pretty stable on those machines so that's what we'll use for the time being. Thanks again!
