    Question WordPerfect Attachments

Every computer on my network can't open email attachments that are wordperfect documents. It looks like it is going to start to open and then it just stops and you can see wordperfect locked up in the task list. if you download the attachment and the double click on it, it opens fine. If anyone knows how to fix it it would be greatly appreciated.

If your using Microsoft Office on your workstations, You would of had an option at the time of installation, to install the document converters. This would cover Wordperfect, Lotus,
    Microsoft Works, Etc.
If it was not installed you can still do it from Add/Remove Programs feature on the CD.

I actually have wordperfect installed. I haven't had any problems converting. My problem is with my die hard wordperfect users that we can't convince to change to office. they would rather not be able to open attachments than to use ms word.

    thanks

IMHO this is an HR problem and not an IT problem. You should NOT be wasting your time trying to support software that your company either doesn't use or approve of.

I have a similar problem, except it has to do with Netscape users and IE users. Netscape used to be our company browser of choice, but extreme buggines and unexplained errors caused me to switch people over to IE instead. We have no problems with IE. We have some "die-hards" who still insist on using Netscape because they think it's better than IE . Then they complain about Netscape crashing their computer, so I tell them that the solution is to get rid of Netscape and install IE. If they don't like that solution, then they can continue to tolerate the GPF's and weirdness. Fine by me. I'll let them get tired of it and then they can come to me so I can install Internet Explorer on their computer.

I had another user complain that IE didn't work and it crashed worse than Netscape. The cause: the user ran Internet Connection Wizard "because that's what they do at home." It got setup for a proxy server (which we don't have) and tried to use an Automatic configuration script (in a drive location that didn't exist) Turned off those options and they're as happy as a clam.

What e-mail system are you using?

We've had a similar problem involving Word97 attachments with Lotus Notes. It doesn't occur on all stations, though.

We use exchange. But it also occurs on our company intranet, if it is downloaded it won't open it. We use IIS 4 for this.

It is wordperfect 9. I applied service pack 3. I am about to send in for service pack 4, the only way to get it is on cd from them. I looked all over their site and no where does it have any info about a patch or service pack to fix it.

As I posted earlier, I have seen this happen on other e-mail systems with a different office app.

I'm starting to think it's the OS that's the culprit. Something with OLE or filetype association properties maybe.

A workaround we do is to save the attachment instead of trying to open it from the e-mail message itself. It works, even if its not as practical.
