SHUTDOWN TROUBLESHOOTING
hi all
i have atx motherboard but everytime when i try to shutdown my system it just halt it and shows "now it save to turn off you computer".
Is there some patch on MS web site or any solution?

have you gone into the BIOS and enabled power management . also check in device manager and make sure there are no errors under Advanced Power Management Support .

Have you restored the OS System State recently?
MS TechNet explains it here: <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q303383" target="_blank">(Q303383)</a>
Otherwise, just check your Power Management settings in Windows and in the BIOS to make sure you've enabled it properly.

Todo: I'm sure my ATX is on because i can shutdown properly under linux (red hat 7.2)

sorry but i really don't know what is to "restore the OS system state"?
Is that when you upgrade SP?
i remember since installing win2k i couldn't shutdown it..
any way can some1 tell me how do i check Power Management settings in Windows?

Disable APM in the BIOS. That is preventing the OS from shutting down the PC.
