moving user profiles after upgrading to a domain

hi all,
i really need to know this bit of info.
A simple network with 2k on each of the 10 pcs and a 2kserver as a server.After upgrading to a domain the users lost their settings (mail settings , backgrounds ....) . I know of the system user profile ability to transfer settings but it didn't work.Any ideas?
Another thingy , anyone heard of eroaming?
i think it has to do with the users keeping their profiles on the server so wherever they log on their settings are there.
I'd appreciate any help.

We had to do the same thing a few months ago. After trial and error with the built-in profile copy-deal I found that if you log on as administrator, you can manually copy the contents of their former profile folder to their new one.

Example, C:\Documents and Settings\USER1 is their old while C:\Documents and Settings\USER1.NTSERVER is their new. Copy the contents of USER1 to USER1.NTSERVER. Make sure you have hidden files shown. You'll have to be logged-in as administrator or at least a 3rd account that has admin rights. Of course you can't be logged-on as one of the profiles you're copying to or from.

One addendum, make sure you delete all their temporary internet files before you copy, if you can. Not really neccessary to waste time copying that junk. Also, just in case, I would copy maybe a folder at a time.

You could do a few things:

- Control Panel -> System -> User Profiles -> Copy old user profile to new one.

- Log in as local admin and manually copy all files/folders and change ownership and permissions from old user to new user.

- use system migration tool included in the RESKIT.
