Long pause at splash screen
I just did a fresh install of Professional on a new system and at the white splash screen the system pauses for a long time when the blue blocks are about half way along. Does anyone know what the OS is doing at this point and if I can speed it along by changing a timeout setting in the registry or possibly disable what it's looking for if that is the problem? Maybe it is loading the services and drivers at that point and I'm too impatient...

You can speed the bootup time slightly by setting any unused IDE channel connections to disabled under Device manager

Under the Primary & Secondary IDE controllers, where it states 'Auto-Detect' (if nothing is connected to it) set the value to NONE or Disable. This will stop Windows looking for any devices on the channels when booting up.

There should be no config.sys for Win2K

My hardware config:
1.4 Athlon
Asus A7m266
512 DDR
GeForce3 Ti200
Adaptec SCSI adapter 29160
WD 10000rpm SCSI HDD
Primary IDE: Seagate 80G 7200
Secondary IDE: HP 9710 CD-RW
I disabled the secondaries in the BIOS and in Professional which sped up boot a little.

It could be the SCSI card slowing the boot times down. Is it possible to try without the SCSI card in just to see?

2000 seems to pause when u are running an athlon, usually the older style athlons. built a box with a 1GHz athlon and 2000 seemed to stall at that screen for awhile.

Never has done for me when I was using. 27 seconds to boot from cold to usable with a 1Ghz T-Bird.
