cd rom not recognized in windows 98
guys, it would be really nice if someone would help me get my cd-rom drives working again. I have a regular drive that is connected as a slave to hard drive on the primary IDE controller and I also have a creative CD-RW that is connected as a master on the secondary. They were both working fine and I had no problem until I rebooted my computer a couple of days ago and the system found them at startup but windows didn't see them not even in the device manager. Even though my hard drive is working it also isn't showing in the device manager under disk drives. ~???~ I'm confused
Device manager doesn't indicate any kind of conflict or problem. I have never troubleshooted this kind of situation before and have no idea what could be wrong. Please help

Hi.
There are some things you can do.
Reinstall the Bus Master Driver, or upgrade it with a newer version. Tell me what's you motherboard and I'll give you a link where you can download a newer version.
If that wouldn't work, try installing Windows over. You must use a bootable disk in order to access your CD-ROM under command prompt. Then install Windows on the same directory, as before.
Good luck.

You can also try booting to Safe Mode and remove cdroms, disk drives, and controllers from device man

Thanks guys
I'll try the Safe Mode first, (reinstalling windows will be the last reserve: cause I've just reinstalled the whole system about a week 1/2 ago.)
Thanks a lot, forgot all about safe mode shawnMT.
It's time to upgrade the controller driver too. Let you guys know what worked!
