A strange noise in the floppy disk drive ?
When I turn on my computer running Win 2K it first scans my CD-ROM drive and the floppy disk drive, and starts spinning the hard drive .. That is NORMAL , I can understand this .
That I can't understand is when Win 2K prompts me to enter a password to log in
the floppy disk drive makes a strange noise, before I can enter the password . This only lasts for 2 or 3 seconds, but I'm wondering if that is a normal behavior or if there is something wrong about Win 2K trying to access the floppy drive everytime the Windows logon shows up on the screen .
Any ideas???

Are you running any Anti Virus like Norton that automatically scans your drives at startup?
If so that probably it, as it'll be scanning while it's waiting for you to enter your PW

This can also sometimes be cured by clearing the Documents in the Start Menu, it has worked for me before.

you might have something from the registry pointing to a:\ drive or a Path to A:\ in your environment settings.
also check Autoexec.bat, system.ini and win.ini
I would also run a Virus scan to be on the safe side..
