Setting up my drive....

Question:

I currently have a 10gig drive that I want to partition into 2 5gig partitions and use the Windows 2000 boot loader

1. Windows 2000
2. Windows 98 SE

I know that you can do this if you install Windows98 first.

My question is: I'm currently running Windows 2000 w/NTFS5 file format. Can I resize my NTFS5 partition to 5gigs for Windows 2000 and the format the 5gig of free space to FAT32 and install Windows 98? My friend said I should be able to if I know how to edit the boot.ini in Windows 2000.

Can this work?

back when i used to use bual booting .. i used powerquest partition magic and resized it from that and then installed 98SE, then on bootup i just used the win2k bootloader .. but rember 98 se cant read the NTFS

yep calls for a 3rd party utility. The boot.ini contains info that will tell what OS's are installed and what disk and partition they are on. there is no reference to the size of the partition. A comp running only Win2K should have a boot.ini that looks something like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

if the comp was running multi-boot Win2K + 9X/ME/XP there would be an entry there for those as well, it would show what disc and partition they are located on.
