    Post PACKARD BELL REFORMAT

REF PACKARD BELL 9033,I AM TRYING TO REFORMAT THIS HEAP OF JUNK, BUT IT WILL NOT REGOGNISE, PIONEER DR-A14S CD DRIVE, I REPLACED ORIGINAL A WHILE AGO WITH THIS UNIT BECAUSE IT WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, WHEN I BOOT OFF PB BOOT DISK, IT SAYS IT CANNOT DETECT CD, THE DRIVE IS DEFINATELY FAULTLESS AND WAS WORKING PERFECTLY IN WINDOWS,
IF I USE A WIN 98 STSRT UP DISC IT WILL DETECT IT, BUT WIN 98 START UP DISC WILL NOT START A PACKARD HELL, YES I DID SPELL IT RIGHT

    Had this same problem...

i had to end up finding another PB CD-rom and using it, could not get another to work. You may try a different brand first, but those P-Bell Restores are very finicky.

Also, make sure that the CD-rom is set to the same IDE position as original(i.e. Primary Slave, Sec Master, Slave, whatever), as the restores I have seen always look where the factory original should have been installed, and wont automatically look on other IDE chains.

just a thought. Do you know how to edit the autoexec.bat file ? If so, you may want to copy the files from your win98 startup disk onto your packard bell disk and instead of the disk loading the packard bell cdrom driver you can load a generic driver. I have done this on acer computers and HP
