Question How do I unistall Windows 2000?

I made a big mistake . I upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 . When setup asked me if I wanted to upgrade my drive with NTFS I said Yes . But now my hardware is not working at all . Modem, keyboard, sound, Intel 810 graphics card, none of those are working now . I can't use my computer for anything . I didn't know Windows 2000 was really NT 5.0 .
Well, I tried to use the Starup diskette I created on Windows 98 and the Windows 98 CD
for reinstalling Windows 98 and they don't work . I get an error when trying to get back my system . It seems Windows 2000 doesn't recognize them .
How can I get back my Windows 98?
I'm NOT in the dual boot thing , only running the damn win 2k .

    Exclamation

    Back up your data.
    Boot from 98 startup.
    Run fdisk.
    Remove all non dos partitions.
    Create your partitions.
    Reboot to 98 startup.
    Format c:
    run win98 setup.
    Next time check the HCL
    Hope this helps.

Wait a minute. Nothing works...have you yet tried to find Windows 2000 specific drivers for your hardware? This may help. It's not necessarily an NTFS thing. I simply don't see Windows 2k toasting a machine like this.

And for another thing, NEVER NEVER EVER upgrade to W2K from 98. ALWAYS do a fresh install off of a freshly formatted/fdisked hard drive. I don't care what others may say, but you're asking for trouble if you upgrade.

Kinda WIERD that you didn't research the Operating System before you BOUGHT such an expensive peice of software though....

Normally, I would agree with this position whole-heartedly but today, at a client's insistence, I upgraded an EMachine from Win98 to W2K and it actually found every device AND updated every driver AND converted to NTFS AND imported all profiles on the first try without a single hitch!!! I'm still a little stunned. I guess miracles do happen at least once in a while.

The i810 chipset is fully compatiable with Win2k. Like above post states, installing Win2K drivers for the hardware is a good place to start.

I have yet to have a problem upgrading 98pc to windows 2000. Everything is being reconized and I have done 20 already. The onnly problem I had was with my home PC and the modem, I go that working with in 2 hours. I just loaded the drivers again and it worked, go figure. As far as uninstalling Win2000, have you gone into safe mode and checked out the hardware. May be you just need to find 2000 drivers for them. The problem parts will be the one's with a yellow ! by them.

Okay, I'll believe that W2K had a hard time with video, modem drivers, etc., but the keyboard driver? I've NEVER had a problem getting a keyboard to function on any flavor of Win machine. Are you sure there wasn't some other problem as well? If you can get your machine operational, then you should be able to add the rest of the W2K drivers, then dump the 98 altogether. In the long run, you'll be glad you did!

How do you uninstall Windows 2000?

Here's an excerpt from a song parody written by Nightowl from http://www.ulster.net/~nightowl/ that I think gives you your uninstall instructions well enough...

Sung to the tune of the Beatles "Let it Be"

    *ahem*

When a user calls me with some trouble
And I feel that he's been rude to me
I speak my words of wisdom

    Format C

In the users hour of darkness
the solution's right in front of me
    Owl's words of wisdom

    Format C

    Format C, Format C,
    Format C, yea Format C
Theeeeere goes your data - Format C

And when the broken hearted user
gives me the "no backups" plea
I giggle when I tell him

    Format C

Even though they may be angry
Still a chance that they will see
How much I enjoy saying it

    Format C

    Format C, Format C
    Format C, Yea, Format C
    Owl's words of wisdom - Format C

The user frets and he is grouchy
There's still a light that gives me glee,
    Until he calls tomorrow,

    Format C.

I hang up to the sound of swearing
    another user angry at me
    Because he didn't back up

    Format C

    Fomat C, Format C
    Format C, yea Format C

    theeeeere goes your data
    Format C

I have to agree that installing win2k on a freshly formatted drive is the best way to go, but I have done the update route on several machines without any real problems. I remember having problems when win98 first came out too. Drivers are going to be troublesome.

I have installed Win2K on many machines that use Intel i8xx chipsets with out a problem. Even the onboard video is generally supported out of the box. NTFS would not cause any issues with your hardware disapparing. For drivers, try the links below to correct any mainboard/chipset related issues. These are Intel's drivers...

    chipset support: http://www.compaq.com/support/files/...load/9826.html

    graphics: http://www.compaq.com/support/files/...load/9582.html

    HDD controller: http://www.compaq.com/support/files/...load/8924.html

Download each file to a seperate folder, extract the contents, and then run each individual setup...
My brain went into standby mode and I can't get it to wake up, is there a BIOS patch for this?
