That never happens to me. But some thing you can check is what is the mp3's kbps & kHz that might have something to do with it, Another thing what program are you using to convert mp3 to wav. Also you might want to try nero burning ROM works great and easy to use.

Another good program to try is CDRWin (made by goldensoft), but that is assuming you aren't having any hardware conflicts; however, this sounds like a complete software screw-up.
It's possible the program you are using is not properly recognizing the CD writer, and that is the focus of your frustrations. I would try a few different programs, CDRWin, Nero, maybe even NTI cd pro, and see if that changes any results.

i use music match (ver 6) to burn cd to mp3 and mp3 cd maker to go mp3 to cd
the addy is www.zy2000.com for mp3 cd maker .. i havent had any problems and the quality seems good

Music Match 6 also does a good job of burning MP3's to CD audio.
