    Angry W2K product keycode

    Does anybody know how to retrive the product keycode from the registry????

    Same as in 9x...

    run regedit

    go to hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\curr entversion

    it's labled productkey

    Just don't do it to pirate the software, please...

    Are you sure about that? I did not remember that being the case and checked on a few systems. There is not a productkey in the registry....

    Within the CurrentVersion key on my W2K system there is a ProductId value but it has a number in the format XXXXX-OEM-XXXXXXX-XXXXX. This number isn't even anything close to the ID codes that came with my W2K or Office2000 Pro packages--the only two pieces of MS software on my system at the moment. (And I have done a clean install recently because of major hardware changes)

    When you say key code - you mean the "key" you must enter to setup win2k ?

    well this key is only a part of the setup and it's encrypted inside the registry. the only thing you'll find in the registry is the "product ID" which not very usefull.

    Moved to Mod Room until decision is made.

    Not sure, but my guess it that Win2K converts it to binary.
