Services and controller app
I have been pondering on what the heck does this program do...
and why is it required to access the internet so that I can reach the internet...
And in Zone Alarm why does it ask to run as a server?
Does it need to?
or is it Microsoft spying..?
Dumb question, but I don't know the answer..

You can tell it "No" everytime it asks that and you'll be all good. It will act as a firewall regardless of what you tell it to do. You just don't want malicious users hacking into your PC, and Zone Alarm thinks every IP address is a potential hacker, so it asks you everytime something is trying to upload data to your PC. Maybe a cookie could set it off. So if you create a "rule" for it each time it asks, then it will never ask again. I've found that firewalls are good to install on servers or similar PC's, but not really necessary on a standalone workstation only because they're aggravating. Although, better safe than sorry.
