Ghosting Win2k?

What is the best version to backup or Ghost Windows 2000?

I have Norton Ghost 6.0, Ghost2001, and Ghost2002

I can Ghost Win2k with Norton Ghost 6.0 but then I lose the boot sector? it just won't boot up..

I have tried both 2001, and 2002 to Ghost my computer, but I don't know what Network Drivers to work with my Realtek 8139/810x NIC card.

What can I do or use to back up my drive with out using the Defacto Backup program from microsoft?

If so...
what are the parameters to use?
Ghost 6.0 was so much easer to use.

I am wondering...can I use my Windows2k disk to repair the bootsector?

anyhelp would be greatly appreciated!

I use Ghost multicast server Enterprise 6.5 and it works very well for me. I'm asuming that you are running sysprep.

You can create your own templates for the Network cards and use multicast, all you need is the dos ndis drivers and your network drivers and your away, the boot disc creation tool does the work for you, great peice of kit IMHO.

i have created a full working copy of ME ,2k and xp on separate cds (700m) for example xp fully loaded with drivers internet connection set up etc ,,,,took 1.5 gig i then took it to another machine and ghosted a image using ghost 6.
i then burnt a bootable cd with the "ghost" and a copy of mouse driver plus mscdex etc (and a copy of ghost) .........with compression it fits!!!!

i also ,,as i said have done 2k and me ,,,,all i do is pop the cd in the tray and boot.

it takes 8 mins to copy in dos ,,,,,and i can have choice of 3 op systems on my machine in 30mins
the only drawback is that u loose everything since u created the ghost ,,,,,but there again it gets rid of all that crap youve loaded.

What about use on a Domain, where SID's or GUID's for the PC come into play? I know with WinNT4.0 I always used Ghost Walker to generate a new SID and computer name after the image was installed. I have no experience with 2K or XP and Ghost. Any advice would be great!

Use SYSPrep before you create the ghost image, this strips the machines ID and Domain details, leaving you with a fresh OS with all the software and drivers you require...

Dont feel to bad about it, please answer this question for me though. do you want to create a ghost image for just your machine or to run off others aswell?

I just wnat to make a back up from my local drive, to another local drive...


But it would be nice when I build my new PC that I can Ghost through my network...

I have already tried to Ghost my other PC to this one..They have the very same NIC card..
but I can't find the driver for it on Ghost.
When I put in the custom driver from my NIC card disk it doesn't work...

I should know this crap all by now...ARGHHH

Due to the change in the NTFS file system in W2k you need ghost 6.5 to create an image of a drive that is format NTFS. With windows XP the NTFS was changed again, so for it you need ghost 7.0...

as I said earlier i use ghost 6 (under dos)....

have spent all day "playing" with xp ,,,,still dont like it (cant set contrast low enough + hate "autorun devices).

when i was ****** off with it i put my 2k cd in my drive and rebooted (from cd) ,,,,,,,i am now back on a "full" 2k setup in under 8 mins.

PLEASE NOTE this is FAT 32 NOT NTFS.

when i download to much "crap" i just "ghost" over the origional.

the only things i lose are new docuaments and emails

i managed to get 1.7g on a single cd with compression.
I took by drive to another machine ghosted it to there h/d ,,,,,then copied it back to mine plugged mine in and "burnt" it.

I have NOT had any probs with booting ,and all my drivers are correct.
