System freez in 3d games:
Ok this has been my problem. My system will lock up totally and uterrly in 3d games. Some times it only takes 10 minutes, some times it takes several hours.
But it allways happens.
I think I have narrowed it down to the following. Tell me what you think?
A) The gforce2 card is unstable and overheats/dies
B) The fact that I have half of my things on IRQ 11. *I CANT GET THEM OFF*, I have tons of free IRQs, I have done everything possible to try and get win2k to re-set what irq it puts stuff on. Its dumping it all on 11, even when i tell the bios to config the irqs(it doesnt put them on 11 mind you). Could this cause lockups? Wouldnt it be more regular lockups and in more than 3d games if this was the issue?
System specs:
AMD 1333, ABIT KT7A-RAID, soundblaster 528, 256megs SDRAM. Sony CD burner, some generic DVD player. Ultra ata 100 Hard-Disk. Linksys network card. Gforce2.
win2k pro service pack2
*notice* I had a similar problem when I first installed my gfx card in my old PII 450. I installed a new heatsink fan on the PII and the problem went away. Could it be that the gfx card is simply defective? or could it be an irq problem. or a win2k problem.

Firstly make sure your system is set up as recommended by Pauls Unofficial KT7 FAQ for your hardware.
The IRQ's all being on 11 is down to your system running in ACPI mode. I recommend (and have done this endless amounts of times with no problems) setting the Computer type in device manager to Standard PC rather than ACPI. Full instructions are also on Pauls Unofficial KT7 FAQ to do this.
I run the same board with no probs after follwing Pauls FAQ.

I had the same problem with W2k on a Abit KT7A-RAID 1ghz T-bird, tnt2 ultra video. CPU heatsink sucks! the CPU was pushing 150 degrees F when running 3d game. I watercooled my CPU and it worked fine, no lockups. Before the water system I set game to software 3d rendering instead of hardware rendering and that stopped it till I did the extra cooling. my HSF was a AMD approved unit also. I really want to find a new HSF that will work well and take the water system off.

Heat I do not think is the issue. I'm running with the case off and the AMD is maxing out at 52c on a bad day.
Actually I need to look into that. it was maxing out at 46c just a few weeks ago. HSF must be loose.

Check the stability of the 3.3 volt current from your power supply. Many NVidia chipset video cards are adversely affected by unstable power supplies.
