Post Games to play on Win 2000

Well, as you can see from the post below I can now use my 3 DFX card with W2K, BUT, what games will play on this operating system?

    AMD k6-2 450Mhz
    128Mb SDRAM
    2Gb H/D with O/S
    15Gb H/d with data
Diamond Multi Media Monster 3D II PCI Card.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance for for your help!

That is not necessarily true. Games written for win9x code will technically not work with winNT/2K. However, win2K supports current versions of DirectX, which in turn will allow newer games to run. It is kind of a hit and miss. As stated above, most Quake based games will work with Win2K.

To add to the list - Rogue Spear, just about all EA sports titles (post 99), Need for Speed 4 and 5 (with compatibility updates & patches from EA), Hitman: Codename 47, Metal Gear Solid, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (with a patch from Eidos) and Clive Barker's Undying.

If you really want a more ROBUST listing of games supported under 2K, check out www.ntcompatible.com. In some cases, it will tell you what you must do to get a game to work properly in an 2K environment.

So far I haven't found any games that I thought were worth spending time on that don't work and work VERY well in my win2k system. Some Excellent examples: I found that Deus Ex, Unreal Tourny, Q3A, and American McGee's Alice ALL ran better on my system with Win2K than on 98. Anybody who says games run like crap on this OS are either setting things up wrong or trying to run the OS on too old of a machine. If your computer is half way up to date you won't have a problem.

P.S. Take note, Windows XP Home Edition IS based on the NT Kernel. MS wouldn't shoot themselves in the foot by putting out a home OS that is as incompatible as some people are making it out to be.

Yes they would, I refer to Windows itself.

Judging from MS website, it looks like XPhome is still win9x based and WinXP Pro is based on WinNT/2K with major tweaking on the side of being compatible for win9x.

Your current hardware can't take full advantage of the engines these games have. Get yourself an Athlon & a decent AGP card. You're really missing out on how these games can really perform, if you run it on your platform, especially if your going to use Win2K.

There is a NT/2k 95 emulator that will allow you to install games that check for Win95 and then tell you that it won't run - however they then may or may not run. I will look for the reference to it.
