Shut down problems with HP CD Writer
I just installed the HP CD Writer IDE 9150i and now the computer won't shut down properly. I suspect it's one of the 2 memory resident programs that it puts in the task bar (HP CD Writer or Adaptec CD Wizard). How do I (1) close them (right click doesn't do it) and/or (2) disable them on start up (the start up folder is empty).
Thanks a million,
Russ

I think there is a registry hack to fix this. I have it written down at work. Try HP tech support, they gave it to me. I'll try to remember to post it on Monday.

Are you running Adaptec 3.01d or later and/or HP mycd v2.5 or later?
This was on HP's site, you might want to take a look at it.

well
you can just use the "auto end" task and services on shutdown..
go in the registry to
HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\
the string name is "AutoEndTasks"
give it a value of "1"
HungAppTimeout - for manual "kill"
WaitToKillAppTimeout - in shutdown
for services :
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\
string name : WaitToKillServiceTimeout
default is "20000" (20 seconds) - you can change..
hope it helps

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the advice.
The results.
Cave Dweller: I went to the site and downloaded the recommended drivers (not the cd for 9.95). The HP driver went in fine but did not solve the problem. The adaptec driver stopped the program from loading on boot.
Condor: Your suggestion worked.
Thanks everyone
Russ
