finding my license number
Is there any way (through the registry perhaps) to find out what my license number for windows2000 server is?
I have a server with win2k and would like to dig up the license number.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Rafi

I`m pretty sure they`re encrypted on W2K versions but perhaps one of techs here has a solution for you.
Addendum: That is unless you ring MS and speak kindly, they might be enlightened enough to issue you a new number.

I don't know if this will work on a win2k server box, but on a win2k pro box you can do a search for a file named $winnt$.inf, you should find the product ID in this file under (what else) [userdata] productid=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx..

I carefully checked my W2K Pro system and could not find any occurance of the file "$winnt$.ini", or anything like it. Are you sure this is the name of the file? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I, too, could not find a file by said name. I also did a search for *winnt*.ini and nothing came up....

This topic has been covered several times. Recently <a href="http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum3/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=29&t=002169" target="_blank">here</a>
Archer is correct. If you contact M$, they should be able to retrieve your license info and if necessary, give a you a cd key.
