[RESOLVED] Win2K re-boot hang
Hello,
I've posted this problem before, but now I have a little more info. I've just done a fresh clean install of 2K on my HD. It worked great, no problems when you shut down and select "restart". As I normally do when installing an OS, I got on the net and started downloading drivers and such, but this time I started with the MS site. I installed the "critical updates" package first. When it finished, it had me re-boot, but it hung. I thought, maybe it's because I didn't install SP-1 first, so I did that, but same thing. Has anyone ever had this problem? I could sure use some advice, otherwise I'm considering un-installing the SP-1 and critical updates. - Thanks

you should install the SP prior to installing any other updates. uninstall what you've put in then start with sp1 and see how it goes, if your ok then install any other updates.

Another question, did you overclock your computer ?
if it's the case, then just put back your computer into its original settings and see what's happening.
I had the same issue cause my computer has been overclocked. Onece the update is finished, I overclocked and it's working fine.

Box isn't overclocked. It's an AMD k6-2 533. un-installed the sp-1 and critical updates, but it's still the same. Other than the not re-booting thing, it works great. BTW, does anyone have the file optional.inf for windows 2k pro I could borrow? Look in your inf folder. Mine seems to be bad? Won't let me add option components through the add/remove programs. I had this problem before, but lost my good copy of optional.inf. Thanks

Did you install Windows Media Player when you downloaded your updates? If yes, try to go into Install/Remove and disable the Adaptec-related option.
It fixed my hang problem, but it could be peculiar to my machine.
