scsi controller install
I am installing Novell 3.12 and the SCSI controller is Adaptec 29160. I have 2 of them because the customer wants to duplex the drives and I loaded the ham drivers just fine but I can only load them for one card. How can you load drivers for both cards? In most other OS like Windows or Linux once you load the driver it works for both cards but it does not seem to be doing it here. I tried loading them again specifying the other slot but it won't do it.

Let me get this straight.... You're installing a Ultra160 SCSI controller on a Netware 3.1 server? Anyway, in response...
You controller doesnt support Netware 3.1, it supports:
Novell NetWare 3.2
Novell NetWare 4.20
Novell NetWare 5.0
This is per <a href="http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/techspecs.html?prodkey=ASC-29160&cat=%2fProduct%2fASC-29160" target="_blank">http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/techspecs.html?prodkey=ASC-29160&cat=%2fProduct%2fASC-29160</a>
BUT....
if you look @ the driver page for the card for netware:
<a href="http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?cat=/Product/ASC-29160&filekey=u160_drvr_v111_disk4.exe" target="_blank">http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?cat=/Product/ASC-29160&filekey=u160_drvr_v111_disk4.exe</a>
it says: "This card requires full NWPA support for the HAM drivers. If you are using a version of NetWare other than 3.2, 4.2 or 5.x, you will need the NWPA update for your operating system to use this card. Please go to Novell's Support Knowledgebase and search for "NWPAUP1A.EXE"."
I'll save you the trouble, it links to a TID here:
<a href="http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/2951606.htm" target="_blank">http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/2951606.htm</a>
and provides a download file : <a href="http://support.novell.com/servlet/filedownload/pub/nwpaup1a.exe" target="_blank">http://support.novell.com/servlet/filedownload/pub/nwpaup1a.exe</a>
Hope it helps...
Good old NetWare 3.11... if only modern O/Ss were made of the same stuff. Forget Windows 2000 for 99.999% uptime, this one had it ten years ago.

Yes the monitor screen says Netware 3.12 25 user.
I am an idiot on Netware so bear with me but like I said earlier I have loaded all those patches and one of the cards works. the driver loads fine and the drive shows up fine the trouble I have is getting the second card loaded. keep in mind I have 2 identical scsi cards in this system.
I appreciate all the links and such but I have already looked there for help thats why I come here (as a last resort) I have connected 2 drives to the one controller and mirrored them fine but this customer wants to duplex with another controller and thats what I am having trouble with. maybe adaptec needs to rewrite their requirements or maybe 3.12 is 3.2.

Pardon my ignorance, but why do you need two controller cards? Can't you run all the SCSI devices off one card and be done with it? If you're wanting to mirror drives and/or volumes, then Netware has the ability to do that already, no matter how the drives are physically arranged or partitioned. It's really easy, and I can show you how if you want.

Well it is not my decision to make this is what the customer wants and it is not an unreasonable request it is called duplexing and just gives a little more fault tolerance and less of a chance of a single point of failure. I agree 2 drives on one controller is sufficient and yes its very easy to do in fact in my earlier posts I say that I have done it already I am just trying to give the customer what they want and having a little trouble installing the second controller.
If I can't get any decent answers then I will probably have to go that route but in the meantime I would still like to know how to do it.

I'd suggest posting in the Novell Support Forums at <a href="http://support-forums.novell.com/category/twistercat.tpt/@hash@Root!Operating%20System!Server!NetWare%203.x " target="_blank">http://support-forums.novell.com/category/twistercat.tpt/@hash@Root!Operating%20System!Server!NetWare%203.x </a>
But I have a feeling this is beyond the capabilities of old 3.x.

Thank man I have to agree with you. I had to ditch the RAID controller because there was no support in 3.X and I tried to get the customer to upgrade Novell to 4.1 but he decided to go this route.
Thanks again

Okay just an update for those that care.
The solution was to load the driver a second time after loading something else but not right after another. This system also had an IDE drive as the boot drive and once I loaded the scsi driver then the ideata driver it would allow for another scsi driver load.
