novell password
Shop I used to work for sends me an email the other day asking if I remember a password on a novell box I worked on like a year and half ago. Of course I don't, but would like to help them out. Anyone know any programs out there to crack a novell account?

You will need access to the server console (rconsole will not work) go to novellfans.com (poss. netwarefans.com) and look for password recovery software. There is a very good password recovery nlm that allows you to reset your admin / supervisor password.

I looked, but couldn't find it on the site (www.novellfans.com). Where is it, what is it called? I'd be interested in that tool as well. I had an orthopedic doctor's office whose support company folded on them and no one knew the Admin password. We ended up guessing it (it was "password," how secure is that?), but if that ever comes up in the future it would be nice to know we have a tool available to use.

Try this and tell us if it works:
ftp://ftp.nsk.su/.3/networks/novell/setpwd.zip
(you must know the name of the account for this to work. At my company for example, we have changed the name of the previous "Supervisor" and "Admin" accounts to different names to deliberately thwart this type of hack)
There are lots of other possibilities out there, try searching for NETWARE PASSWORD CRACK on any decent search engine.

I tried the setpwd.nlm utility on a NetWare 4.2 machine (my home server, I don't like to test stuff on business production servers) and it worked like a charm. I changed the Admin password and it was a piece of cake. Nice little utility!

Thanks for doing that Bret, I wasn't about to try it on the office server, either!
