GroupWise 5.5 and IE 5
Hello Everyone,
Don't know if this should be in Novell or NT. Has anyone gotten the GroupWise 5.5 client to be the default mail application in IE 5? I've followed the directions on Novell's cool solutions site but it still will not work (I get a dialog box asking to choose a profile and when I choose Novell Default Settings, nothing else happens). I've tried uninstalling the GroupWise client and now the something about the default mail client isn't installed correctly. GroupWise works fine otherwise...
Any advice or tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Reference this page
It works great for me, I am using IE5.5sp1 with GWclient 5.5.3, and Windows 95b. I can select GroupWise as my default mail client in Internet Options (Programs Tab) and I don't get the popup mailbox profile box. It just goes directly to GroupWise and starts a new message with the correct email address.
Check this: open a Windows Explorer window and from the view menu, select Options, then the File Types tab. Scroll down to "URL:Mailto protocol" and there should be a GroupWise icon and the "Open With" program should be GRPWISE. If it's not there it won't work properly.

OK, I was thinking about this all morning and it finally struck me: you need to download this program and install it. This will give you the functionality that you're looking for:

Hi MacGyver,
Thanks so much for the link to the download! How did you find it on the Novell site? I've done a search a couple of hours ago and it returned nothing... go figure. I followed the instructions on the cool solutions site already but it wasn't until I installed the file you pointed to that everything worked. In fact, on the next workstation I only installed the executable file (without the registry hack from cool solutions) and it worked like a champ!
Thanks so much!
J.

It took me a while to find it too, I don't know why Novell's site has to be so confusing. Anyway I'm glad it worked for you and you're most welcome.
Follow up: I have sent an email to GroupWise Cool Solutions site bringing this to their attention.
Follow up #2: Novell has modified the existing article but only added about 3 lines explaining this option. They didn't even give me any credit for it, however, they did give me credit for another article I submitted. Oh well.

Hey Guys,
That's slick! That was too easy! Thanks for the info. I've applied to 10 workstations so far.

Hey? Why is my computer promting me if I would like to accept a cookie? Is it Oatmeal or Chocolate Chip?
