    Unhappy Win XP Prof no cd rom after one read

    No cd rom after each reboot juste one try and it's gone in windows XP Prof

    m/b msi 845pro
    chip set intel 845
    p4 1.6
    256 ram
    cd rom LG 52X single on secondairy ide
    hard drive western on the first ide channel

    Any suggestion

    Have you had i working in the past?
    Did you install something before you rebooted??

    CDROMs disappearing in XP are common if your encountering read errors. I had a bunch of old CDs that wouldn't read correctly with once CDROM but they read fairly well with another.

    If you reboot and it doesn't show up try disabling the contoller in the bios, booting, then shutting down, restarting, enabling it again, then boot to windows.

    If it does come back and vanishes every time you touch it you may have a bad CDROM, a flakey IDE controller, a bad cable, or corrupted/wrong IDE drivers.

    It working fine with xp home but now y ave xp prof and the cd rom is ok after each reboot and work ok one time and vanish after or stay but c'ant not read other cd like if the first cd still in it???

    This <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q314060" target="_blank">MS KB article</a> seems to fix more than just the items listed, its worth a shot with yours too.

    Have you got Nero or Easycd? which versions?

    Have you done the burner update from windows update? Some people report it fixes things, others report that it turns a perfectly good burner into a coaster maker....
