I really hate to say this.. but there is no way to reset that password that i know of(and i did IBM laptop repairs). You may want to speak with IBM directly and see what can be done now.
Just so this is clear.. There are 2 startup passwords possible for IBM laptops.. The Bios password and the Hard drive password. What i stated above is for the Hard disk password.

i, m faily sure this has been covered 12/18mths ago,,
anyway i,ve just done a search for "password" in laptops and come up with (a lot) ,,,,, http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum3/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=32&t=000073&p=
and this comment: ""If it is a supervisor or hdd password, unfortunately you are out of luck. HDD password is stored on a firmware chip on the HDD itself. Systemboard pw is stored elsewhere. Neither can be cleared. This allows them to meet C2 security."" on this link http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum3/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=32&t=000170&p=
good luck freddy

No from what we,ve discovered it would seem that IBM and other laptop Mfg put a password on the hard disk
this is to comply with militry apecs etc,
if were to simply remove the h/drive + pop it in an adaptor and in a desktop , then the data would be accessible.
so ruining and secuity they had.
if u try to run a IBM drive (and others) , you cannot fdisk / format etc ,
as someone says in a posting above ,"this sucks"
but look at the security !!!!

Ok. I don't know to much about paswords on the harddrives' of IBM laptops, but can't you either short out a jumper on the MB or Update the firmware. I know when i update the firmware in my router i have to reset the password. I knows short up the jumper on the MB removes the password that is stored in the fireware. Also how about removing the battery off the MB. Like it said, i don't know to much about it, but it may be worth a shot. Anyone agree?

NO , we have "ALL" tried that ,,yes u will get passed the "bios" ,,,but if IBM put a p/word on the h/drive , you may as well chuck it in the bin,
You cannot format/fdisk or see without the p/word,
If you plug it into your d/top machine (with an adaptor) ,,,,still NO go.

'Fraid not. Your best bet is to contact IBM, maybe they can get the data off for you.

Sorry...you are right. I love the fact that we are all trying to help someone else out, and even if he never comes back to this post, the rest of us all did our part and learned something new or help someone out. Sorry.
