    Post IBM laptop HDD

I just went out and bought a new HD for my ThinkPad 760ED, but when I put it in it does not recoginze that it's installed. My question is.. does the replacement HD have to be from IBM? I know of some companies that only allow replacement parts built by them to be used, but I didn't know IBM was one.. help me find out please. Thank you.

no, the hard drive does not have to be from the same mfg. In some cases though, there is a limitation of the size of the drive that the bios will see. If the drive is much larger than the origional, then this may be the case.

More than likely the solution.. I know IBM uses standard IDE for all of it's laptops.. Right back to the p100 series.. You may also need to detect the HDD in the bios, if not, see if there is a bios flash.
