Post Win98 not coming out of sleep mode

I have a problem with my laptop and win98se. Once i put it into sleep mode (close the lid for example), the system wont come out of sleep mode, it just hangs when i try to resume it. It works fine under winme and win2k, but i need win98.

    Thanx in advance,

    BurnFEST (a.k.a. Sam Burney)

try disabling hard drive power down in the advanced section of display properties/screen saver. I have seen this solve many problems with machines comming back from sleep/hibernate

Sorry you didn't mention the model of your laptop, but let's check some of the obvious. Is it setup like this now?
    1. Powermanagment disabled in the OS.
    2. BIOS pwr mgm't not set to APCM mode.

I too have a Dell- an Inspiron 5000 with the smae problem.

    few things to do:

    1. Install the windows shutdown patch
    2. If your Dell connect to the company network, also install the mapped drive shutdown patch.
    3. Do what the other guys recommend.
    4. Let us know if that works....

Check to make sure your "Monitor" type in device manager is the proper display for your laptop. If the wrong or a mismatched monitor type is selected, you'll get a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner of the screen.

The way to know for sure if this is your problem.. after it's "still asleep", do the following:

    CTRL+ALT+DEL
    Alt+S

If you find that your laptop suddenly shuts down properly, that means that the video signal wasn't being sent to the display.

Make sure no USB devices are plugged in.

I have a Compaq with the same problem...whenever a USB device is plugged in it wouldn't come out of standby/hibernate. As of now it is running Win 2000 and the USB port is busted and I have an add-in card so the problem no longer occurs.

I think there is a fix for it but I forgot where...\I remember it being on the M$ website.
