Compaq 12-xl325 Ram Trouble
My bro just got a sweet deal on this Compaq laptop, and is trying to add ram. Compaq, Crucial, PNY, and Mushkin all state that this model will support up to 320MB. When he adds a 256MB module, it only recognizes 192MB, seemingly subtracting the 64MB of onboard Ram. We've tried 2 different modules from two different manufacturers, with the same result each time. Any ideas?

MegaMod
The following quote came from Compaq's website: "Note: Compaq uses industry standard RAM, either Fast Page Mode or EDO SIMM memory or unbuffered 168-pin SyncDRAM DIMMs. Therefore 3rd party memory can be used so long as it meets the requirements of your system. Of course, Compaq memory is warrantied by Compaq whereas 3rd party memory is not."
Go here to download your Quick Reference Guide:
http://www.compaq.com/support/Techpu...sario12xl.html
It is in .PDF format so you will Adobe Acrobat to view it. It lists memory modules available. From the looks of it, your 256MB board should work...provided it is a 100MHZ SDRAM DIMM.
Good Luck!
