Post hmm this might be a tuffy...if posible..

well ill tell you the situation and you all can be the judge of what the chances are.. a customer of mine bought a lap top from me 5 days ago or so... it was a dell latitude cpi PII 300 mgz, 128 megs of ram 6.4 gig hdd and i think 2mg video??? ne who she plays an online game and that was her i guess reason for buying this lap top so she could play it on her couch or in the dinning room or what eva... well she gave it back to me to figure out what the heck is going on, ive never delt with z buffer ive seen this game and its not much to look at its called xenimus and no matter what i do i cant get this message to go away and the game to be playable.. "could not creat z-buffer" well i tryed upgrading the bios, the operating system and everything else i can do software wise... but im still getting this error.. my questions for you all is... is there a way to cheat z-buffer, i know its a graphics format for 3d graphics but im still new at the program itself and i didnt know if there was a way to semi by pass it or disable or what are my options here? i dont log on to these boards much ne more sence i quit my computer tech job.. so if you could with ne posible idea's email me at [email protected] because this is seeming hopeless for me at this point..

    thx loads,

If you are positive that laptop had a 3-d graphics accelerated video, what version of Direct-X is installed. I don't know anything about that game, but I have seen similar things with an older version of Direct-X and the game either didn't come with it or wants a newer version. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

ok i dont know that much about the lap top but im not sure if it supports the 3d with z-buffer.. i know that it is a 2meg lap top video... and i downloaded and redownloaded direct x 8.1 so im wayyyyy up to date on that one.. but is there some kind of accelerations software to fool zbuffer or just something i can do here? it will run ne game but xenimus, but xenimus is a "true 3D game" so um yeah i need help here ...

so my q is still: is there some sort of software i can download/buy (rather get it for free tho) that would cheat or fool zbuffer and let my client play the game with slightly worse graphics?

    thx,

Although I'm not much of a gamer, it seems to me that 2MB of video memory is a little light for 3d games...

I guess the first thing I'd try is to reduce the hardware acceleration in display settings.

I have a DELL CPi D300XT PII 300 MHz. If this is the same as mine it doesn't support 3d gaming. It will give you the error. Try going to the games update site and see if they have a patch for the game to play on the non-3d graphics cards. In the game options it may have an option to disable 3d.

They are called 'wrappers' programmers do make them, but not legally, 3d card makers like to shun off the non 3d card makers so they basically tell you its illegal to make these types of 'wrappers'..

a wrapper converts 3d code into 2d code. so most anyone can use them if you don't mind bad performance

Well you guys pretty much nailed this one:

The computer uses the NeoMagic 2160 128-bit, hardware-accelerated, PCI-bus video controller. Altought NeoMagic is still putting together whitepages for this (for 3 years now) I would say you guys are correct.

I was looking for 3D info about this graphics "card" on the NeoMagic website, and got <a href="http://www.neomagic.com/product/enduser.asp" target="_blank">this</a>. Look at the bottom of the page

The card is "barely" 3D capable, BTW.

    From the web:
[quote]The video chipset is the NeoMagic 2160, also called the MagicGraph 128XD. This is an integrated PCI chip with 2MB of 50ns EDO DRAM built in. This all runs through a really bright 10.4 inch (diagonal) Active-Matrix (TFT) LCD panel capable of supporting 800x600 at a color depth of 16-bits per pixel. It has a 128-bit internal bus and some decent acceleration features. NeoMagic claims it has 3D acceleration, but it's really negligible. The nice thing is that it is fully VESA 2.0 compliant with no drivers. This really helps with games and makes the new Linux VESA FrameBuffer work well!

well i tryed and tryed to explain to this lady that she could not use it for gaming and all, i even when she first bought it sold it at a slightly lower price then what it was up for sale for, well i ended up selling her a new home system with a 64 meg video card and then turned around and found a guy wanting to buy this lap top, sence it was a soar subject i was a smart *** and rattled off a price to him 100 bucks more then what i wanted to sell it for, he took it! and he was happy and i was happy and it all worked out in the end, thank you for your support on this issue tho.

LOL, it's not often that there's a happy ending to those kind of stories - plus you're ahead $100 in the end. Glad to hear it worked out for you.
