Question Format a Partitioned Hard Drive

    Question....

Is it possible to reformat only a partitioned section of a hard drive instead of the whole thing?

Case in point; My hard drive is partitioned into C:, D:, and E: I have Win ME installed on the C: partition, programs on the D and MP3's on E. I only wish to reformat the C partition so that I can do a clean install of ME b/c I have been having some problems with it and I do not want to loose any of the information on my other partitions (namely the 4GB's of MP's).

I'm pretty sure that one can do this I just want to ask before I go ahead and do it.

    Thanks for your help.

yes you can. I would make back-ups of mp3's though just to be safe.

Thanks Widget...I've already begun to do that and it'll take about 10 CD-RW's to get them all...oh well.

    Thanks for the help

    Just a heads up.

If you created the MP3's with Media Player 7 and you have license management on, you may want to be sure you have the license files or they will never play again.

Just a question... If you reinstall ME on the C: drive, if the programs had registry entries or other settings on drive C: won't you have to reinstall those? I know JFerragamo was mainly concerned with his mp3's, but I wouldn't be supprised if he would have to reinstal some of his programs.

    That is correct.

Any programs that are installed to another drive/partition seperate to the operating system, will have to be reinstalled because of the registry entries.

    Thumbs up

I know that I will have to reinstall all my programs again b/c the registry entries and .dll files will be erased from the C: partition. I'll just have to make due with what I have and uninstall all my programs before I reformat the C: partition.

I got all the disks and CD's for them and whatever ones I downloaded I saved to CD-RW's along with my MP3's, also some important e-mails with registration info.

I appreciate the input and feedback I'm getting in regards to this situation and thank you greatly.
