    Post Physical memory??

    We are having a little difference of oppinion here at the shop today so we thought we would ask the question, what is the Max amount of Phycical memory Win Me will use effectivly,without altering the swapfile settings manually.

    According to the documentation I've seen, Win9x & ME (basically the same platform) isn't reported to have problems with 512M or less. As physical memory increases beyond this, difficulties rise varying with system configuration. Some here have declared no problems with up to 1G, but I think that's the exception.

    Platypus is correct. Anything over 512 MB and Windows ME starts having trouble – anything from performance degradation to Out of Memory Errors.

    You can read about it: <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q253912" target="_blank">Error Messages with Large Amounts of RAM Installed</a>

    Oddly enough, it appears Win 95 & 98 can handle up to 1 GB as mentioned here:

    If you want to get the most out of your large amount of RAM 256 or more. Type this in your System.ini file under 386Enh
    New-> ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1

    I'm running WinME with 512MB - and have had no problems...

    But one other question - do you know if it has aproblem uaing 256MB Dimms?

    I hade some, and none seemed to work, even if I had one or two running...
    I tried to go up to 1GB ram, but wouldn't work, even with just one 256MB Dimm..
