Post Clarification on ME support please

I've heard that ME has been discontinued by Microsoft but I haven't heard of any plan to remove it from the market as Microsoft has done in the past with 95, NT, and 98.

So what exactly are they doing? Killing it off, just not manufacturing it any more ,(god willing), or what?

    Thanks for any replies.

Thank you very much for that article NooNoo. It cleared up a lot.

As for the job no I don't have it yet. I'm still waiting to hear back from the company but hopefully it will be this week when I know.

Dark Millenium I wanted to wish you good luck with the job and hope you get the news you hope for.

I found the article very interesting NooNoo and BTW my local PC World are selling Windows 98 and 2000 but I didn't see ME.

I like ME and although I have XP I still run ME too, though I will admit I have set my XP partition to default boot.

I wonder if the apparent lack of posts on this ME forum is any reflection on its unpopularity? I ran a poll on a Yahoo Group I run and asked members to state all the OS they used and Windows 95 and 98 were equal top. I know many tech types who prefer 98 to ME or XP.

Thank you for the kind words GanGreek.

As to the unpopularity of ME I believe it to be due to the fact that ME is a poor operating system.

Now I realize a lot of people, techs and non techs alike, will say they have used ME and love it but I have never been able to get it to work properly.

Also I have tried updating it with the latest patches but to no avail.

My hardware is supported by it, but it crashes worse than the first versions of 95 did and everyone I have talked to who uses it says they will be making the switch to either 98, 2000, or XP.

Still haven't found anyone switching to Linux yet though.

That's alright, Dark Millenium, though you still got it wrong but I am still giggling over GanGreek! Actually did a bit of Greek at school! and Latin

It is GranGeek, or mad technophile granny!

Regarding ME, It took me some time to tame it and I still rebuild it every few weeks which is quicker than cleaning out all the rubbish and putting all the faults right - Norton regularly finds about 160 file faults! Yes, it crashes and one gets used to it and blue screens look quite pretty and it has an annnoying habit of freezing when you want to insert a hyperlink in the webpage you are designing!

I have had XP Home running on another partition for a couple of weeks now and although I did reinstall it because of a driver problem, touch wood I have not yet had a blue screen or freeze!

ME has one or two things I like which XP does not appear to have but as I am still learning XP I will reserve judgement for now.

    Regards GranGeek

Once again sorry about that GranGeek.

I'm beginning to think I need new glasses and a spelling course.

I must be the only person in the world who runs WinME and doesn't have any problems with it....
Hmm, maybe I should try to make problems so I can fit in?

I have been on ME for nearly two years now and very satisfied, with one exception. I run a graphic utility written for 2k. I have to be carful about how to close it. Some time it hangs and have to end task. Other than that, ME working near perfect with me.
