An Operating System from Microsoft a resource hog?????????
It could just be me but it seems that when Win95 came out it was a Hog and all updates and new OS's just become Hoggier.
Good to see this topic finally here though I was about to ask who I had to kill to get one going.

I have found Media Player to take ages to load up, even on my Athlon 750, but when it's up and running, it runs like a dream.
I found it a lot easier, if you want to view a few clips to leave media up and running, and just click on the files to make a lot faster loading time

I run a PIII 550 media player springs up good and fast the only ME related problem is that if your drive is in the slightest bit fragged, ME goes into snail mode run defrag and its cured
ps the first critical update seemed to cure some of my initial quibbles

I have a Athlon 700 with 128MB ram, no problems loading up, and I have a lot of music and video clips that use Media player as their default. How much ram do u have installed???

192MB
I think I found part of the problem. If I turn the animations off, it works fine. I play games on this thing all the time and graphics were never a problem till now.

I am setting up a system for my little brother and I was considering using 98lite, but I know nothing about it.
Here is the system I am putting together for him:
P166
64Mb ram
3d Rage II
Lan card.
3 Gb HD
(No modem -- I am not setting it up for the internet)
I do want to give him the option of using the internet in the future, but right now it will hav eno internet. I want it to be as fast as possible. I have no money to put into it except parts I have from other systems.
Any suggestions for the OS? He just wants to play games (he is only 12 years old).
