IE 5.5 Crashing
Well, another IE error. When I open IE it gives me an error in <unknown>. With IE error reporting installed it just closes IE, restarting it doesn't do anything. Without error reporting I can close the error message box and surf, but loading a new page causes the message to pop up again. Luckily I have netscape on my pc as a back up. There appear to be no other problems. Help!

I would take the error message you are getting, and go to Microsoft's support search page. They have a fairly complete list of error codes, and they even have solutions to the problems, sometimes.
If you can't find a solution, I would try removing/repairing/reinstalling IE. Or just download Netscape 6.0.

I have already reinstalled IE, didn't do anything. The error box doesn't give me an error code, and I'm already downloading Netscape 6.0 as I speak, but while I don't mind using Netscape, other people in my household aren't too keen on the idea. I guess they'll just have to deal though won't they?

Microsoft just released a service pack for IE 5.5. Maybe that will help...

When I reinstalled IE that was the version I installed! I had also just installed DX 8.0, but I'd done a Restore point before I installed it, so used system restore to uninstall it, but no luck. If anyone can help it will rrrrrreeeeeeeeaaaaaalllllly be appreciated because I DONT want to have to reinstall WinMe, especially because I'm pretty sure the only way that that would work would be to do a clean install. No thankyou. BTW mlang.dll is a IE file, thats the only thing that the microsoft support page had to say about that file.

And also, installed Netscape 6.0, having similar problems - this time with xcom.dll, a netscape file!

Had a similar problem with errors in IE 5.5
Error would pop up as soon as you opened IE
After closing the error message IE would be fine until about 5 sec later when the message popped up again
Turned out to be a problem with the auto update feature in ME. Went to control panel and disabled auto update and everything was ok

Thought about that too, but I haven't changed any of those settings though since this problem arose. Checked them again, nothing look wrong! Maybe I'll reinstall it for the heck of it.

tried reinstalling the language pack for IE, no effect. What the heck is going on? No clue here. I can't imagine why this error is occuring. BTW, I even get these errors in safe mode!
