Can't find drive or drivers...
I have an old 486 Compaq Prolinea 4/33 which was running win95, but nephew deleted some system files so I tried re-installing win95. Upon final rebooting after installation, the pc was locked up bigtime. I formatted the HD, used a boot floppy with mscdex so I would have cd access but it didnt work. Now I have formatted and have just dos 6.2 because nothing worked. The error I keep getting upon booting with mscdex.exe included in autoexec.bat and config.sys is: Cannot Find Drive....then it can't find the drivers to load (although they are included) What is going on? Am I missing a step? Why can't the pc "see" the drive? The cdrom worked great before I worked on it..LOL Please help me?

Sounds like you have an older CD Rom that used a proprietary driver. I would suggest looking it over to see what make & model it is then locate the correct driver for it.
Make sure the correct *.sys driver file is called in your config.sys. That should bring it back to life.

if you have access to a win98 machine go to start, settings, control panel, add and remove programs, startup disk.. this will create a boot disc for you that will load most cdrom drives from there boot old 486 in dos go to d:\ cd win95 md c:\win95 copy (windows95) d:\win95 c:\win95 if you have hard drive space about 48 meg's then go to root c:\ cd win95 from c:\win95 run setup WHAM win95 will setup without a hitch good luck finding all your drivers for that system

I've found these Win95 drivers for your model:
http://www.compaq.com/support/files/...cate/3_26.html
But, I didn't see anything there for your CD-ROM.
Anyway, Good Luck!
