    Post 32x8x4 Philips 4804 CDRW

Finally got my system up and running smoothly..
    TBird 900, 128ram (133), TNT2 Ultra, etc etc
    Anyways

    This is the setup
Quantum Fireball 4.3gb ata/33 Primary Master:
32x8x4 Philips 4804 CDRW Primary slave:

    Fujitsu 20gb ata/100 Secondary master
Creative 52x CDRom as Secondary Slave

When burning data off the 20gb drive to the cdrw, it often crashes, reporting an error.. different every time. Eventually set neros cache folder to max out at 700!mb, on the quantum drive (c and it worked fine, but would only burn at 2x (4+ kept erroring)

Any ideas, or is this CDRW pants....?

They're all running on 80 thread cables, and all the DMA options are on..

the mobo is an EPOX 8KTA3, supporting ata100.
it seems stable enough (as stable as windoze gets) but burning roms seems to be very fiddly. I've set the cache for Nero to 700 mb, and that seems to help it a fair bit.
I'll try burning at 6x tonight, and if that works, i'll try 8x. I have installed the VIA 4in1 patch.....

These devices are not UltraATA 66/100, they should be connected with a standard 40pin ribbon cable. Also, the DMA should be off for these two drives.

thanks for your help...... I managed to burn a cd lastnight at 8x... with no apparent problems... it shouldn't cause any hiccups if I'm using an 80strand ide cable should it.?

Also, do you have any experience using Nero.
Using the cd-cd copy option, it only lists the writer, and doesn't see my creative 52x reader....?
wierd? Well, it's running Windows, so it wouldn't suprise me!

I have seen the cable make a difference but if you're running well now then no worries.

Sorry, I've never tried Nero. I'll defer this question to another....

You might want to check for a Firmware update.

I have also heard of this problem with the Creative CD-ROM's not being recognised by Nero. I have encountered this and tried another CD Reader and it picked up right away.

    Ha

    got it working!
on the Nero site is a zip file that is an image that you burn to a cd. Put this in the reader, and then choose Find Device in Nero.
Finds the CDRom, reads / calculates the audio extraction etc etc, and poof, it works!

thanks for all your help you guys
