[RESOLVED] Shutdown problems

I have recently pieced together another
newer system, p3-933mhz on a asus cusl2 board. I'm just curious if anyone has found any temp fixes or the fix itself for the nasty windows me shutdown problem because of the ata-100 being to fast for it to shutdown properly?

p.s if your thinking install win98se instead
its affected just the same.

I know MS has a patch that supposedly fixes this problem, but from everything I have read from previous posts on this kind of thing, it does not work real well. Unfortunately, I cannot get onto MS' website today or I would post a link. Another thing you can try is to disable Fast Shutdown in MSConfig.

There was a MS patch released, all it did was add something like a 2 second delay before windows shut down to allow it to close everything properly. I if find it again I'll post the link here

It says that you have to contact a support personnel to obtain the file so good luck.

Hi typo-man,
I sort of have the same problem as you did. I have a P733Mhz with CUSL2 as well. I put a Seagate ATA66 HDD, a Geforce2 Mx with US.Robotics Int modem and a 128bit Soundblaster Vibra. Have you got around with the shutdown crap already? Once thought it was isntallation problem of ME, prob some system files are corrupted. Have tried to do a clean format and install ME from scratch with every update i could possibly find for my devices.
Just get that mystify 'Windows protection error. System halted... ' crap. Doesn't always happen thou. Dun no why... Pliz.. if u found the fix email it to me if it's possible. Thanx... All those techies... I really need ur help as well.. thanx guys...
Another problem with this system is that in the evening and night, when I'm surfing, the system kinda lag by itself. Internet is fine, when i type something, only appears like 2 min later. Only had media player and icq running. Is it memory or video card? or probably CPU. I had a loose heatsink and fan installed but i had tighten it after several clip and unclip (hehhe...) could I have damage my motherboard or CPU. Me dun think anythin has ever burnt yet as well.

Unfortunatley my problem won't be resolved anytime soon. As far as the OS goes i have no
problems other than the shutdown, haven't got any protection fault errors, its just that my ATA100 drive doesn't give WinME enough time to save data at shutdown.

AS far as finding the fix goes...
I even went as far to contact a friend who works at a big name OEM company and Microsoft
hasn't even sent them the patch-fix yet!

Oh well i guess i can't complain too much
i've had my cpu and fsb overclocked now for over 2 weeks and its been rock-solid, no gliches...

I thought I downloaded the patch from the Winodws update site, no phone calls at all
When you reinstall ME just go to Windows update and select the patch for dries with a 2 meg cache, I have never had a problem with my ata 66 drive that has a 2 meg cache, but I downloaded and installed the patch and I am stable

Thanks for the reply, I have the patch you are talking about already installed and it does absoulutly nothing.

This fix i need from what i read and have been told is for new ATA100 drives only that seem to be culprits. My previous drive was ATA66 with 2 meg cache and i never had the problem. But since buy the new one this problem has risen.

I Too have a winme shutdown problem every now and then when i shutdown it will go through all the song and dance and leave me with a blinking cursor in the top left and sit there ad infinitum!! i also have the so call patch installed.

I tried installing ME over the top of itself but that didnt cure it however when i formated c: and re-installed windows it cured the problem but if i download the EIDE patch from MS the problem re-occurs

Can someone show me the link to the IDE patch? I have the same blue screen problem and went to product updates but it wasn't there.

P.S. I heard if you simply wait a few seconds after closing everything before shutting down it helps because the disk has time to clear it's cache. Unconfirmed by me, however.
