    Post DVD-ROM & Video-Out/S-Video

I recently bought a dvdrom for a pretty good price, thinking I could watch DVD's on my computer and on the TV. I have an ATI RAGE 32MG Video Card that supports Video-Out and S-Video to the TV which I have tried before and it worked. (This is prior to getting the DVD, which is where I got the idea why I should get one) After installing the DVD-ROM and making sure it works (no problems with the comp) I tried going through the TV. The picture on the TV would not show up. So I gave up, and went back to the monitor to find out what's wrong. Everything in my Video Setup was fine. But, while looking through WinDVD2001 Readme.txt it said that it does not allow a user to play DVD via TV due to the fact that it could be recorded.
So that is my problem. Is that true? And if so, is there something that I could do to play on the TV? Perhaps using a different program? But, since the screen does not show up on the TV while booting up, do I have to get rid of WinDVD all toghether? Someone please help. Thanks a lot.

firstly, with all TV outputs you need to connect the cable to the TV itself and turn the TV on BEFORE you switch the PC on.

Secondly, the ATI DVD player that is supplied with most of the ATI cards is capable of putting a display out to TV.

Actually, I'm having the Video go through the VHS and that worked before. I did everything you are saying as well, and it worked before, that is why I'm thinking WinDVD is causing this problem. Thanks again.

Concerning what you are trying to accomplish, I've never tried so I can't comment on the 'no DVD to TV' but do try the DVD player that came with your ATI card and let us know if there's any progress...you've got me curious...

DO NOT Try to play through the VCR - the DVD out signal is copy protected and will not play correctly through the VCR - try going directly to the TV and tell us if that makes any difference. Also try downloading the newest software from the ATI website.
