Upgrading from 98 to ME usin OEM version
I have tried to follow the WINME OEM AS UPGRADE guide on the site but i can't get it to work.
it says Rename the WIN.COM and WINVER.EXE, if i do it within windows i still get the error telling me to buy the upgrade version. If i do it in MSDOS then i can't load windows - so can someone talk me through how to upgrade sucessfully and as risk free as possible. Thanx a lot for your help.

More clarity please, what site are you talking about?
Are you trying to install ME over 98 or 95?

The message you are getting suggests that you are trying to install ME from an installation disk, not from an upgrade disk. If that is the case, you will have to remove all traces of the existing Win and then proceed to install ME. In that case it is less frustrating to clean install ME.

I am upgrading from win 98 to ME, i tried using the walkthrough (below), but i can't get it to work.
http://www.windrivers.com/tech/tips/apr01/index4.htm
I've copied the win9x folder from my ME instalation disk onto my desktop. But i get stuck when trying to change the names of win.com and winver.exe as the guide suggests. If i do it within windows, i.e. renaming or deleting them from the windows folder - i still get the error telling me to get the upgrade.
If i do it in msdos (as the guide suggests) then i can't load windows 98. So if someone could explain it a bit clearer, how it is precisely done i would be very grateful.
Cheers for your help!

First - it is ilagal to do it
second - ren win.com to another name (like win.old)
then enter the winme cd in original dos mode
and start setup.com
it must work

You can't install it from windows
It needs to be done from a MS-Dos command prompt (Try holding CTRL down before win 98 starts loading and select "Command Promt Only")
