Have you recently moved the Drive? I had a problem where I had reinstalled the drive into the case but I didn't attach the IDE cable firmly into the drive. Make sure all connections are firmly set.

Run REGEDIT and search for NOIDE. If found delete it or set the value to '0' and reboot. If this doesn't solve it then check for Boot Sector viruses from a clean Bootable Anti-Virus disk.

Some CD-ROM drivers will not work if they are Slaves and there's no master on the IDE channel.
Make Sure you Drive is setup as Secondary Master or Primary Slave.

While your checking Darrens suggestion also look in "Hkey_Local_Machine/Enum/MF" and see if there are multiple entries. If so delete the MF tree and reboot.

Hi,
HP's website for your Pavilion is located here:
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindex...9152_swen.html
There are firmware upgrades at the bottom of that page. Might be somthing to check into...
Good Luck!
