Transfer Rate
Hi All
I've got a little problem with 2 workstations on my network. Both transfer files at a very slow rate compared to 2 other workstations. All 4 machices are identical except that the 2 slower ones have internet connections and the 2 faster machines don't.I followed MSKB article to the registry and where some "maxtrans" keys are supposed to be, well there not there. All machines are Win98 2nd edition.
Any Ideas? Bill

Do you notice a large amount of collisions from those two machines? Are they all loading the same protocols? Do they all use the same NIC? A difference in network throughoutput may be due to faulty wiring, or interference. Did you try switching a "bad" unit in place of a "good" unit and see if you notice any difference? If you do, then the wiring is bad. Switching ports on the hub may also help.

Thanks for the reply guys!
All 4 machine use the same NIC card(3com)Hub is Linksys 15 port and I have changed ports/hookups,also have switched good for bad and problem stays with bad machines. Cabling has been switched out also.I'm in a client/server setup(7 workstations all 98se,server is NT4.Both slow machines use same brand modem and share phoneline for internet access.
TIA Bill
