    Post LAN prob

    Hi,
    I tried to connect 2 win98se systems together at home. but when I open Net.Neih. comp can only see itself (isn't strange? isn't it supposed to see only other comps??) but cant see the other one. what do i do? both comps have exact confg. using NetBeui protocol. I even went through step-by-step tutorial on this site. Followed it but it didn't work?? I really want to play games. and have internet shared. Help me out guys. when I tried to ping, message came up saying network is unavailable.

    How do you have the 2 connected? Hub? Cat 5 cable? Is it a cross-over cable? Little bit more info about the physical setup plz <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

    You need to use TCP/IP to do internet connection sharing. If you go through the internet connection sharing wizard it should set the network for you software wise.

    Try using TCP/IP give the pcs non-routable ip-addresses (192.168.0.x) Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 make sure that you install File & Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks and share out the drives. Put both PCs in the same workgroup.

    How do you have the PCs connected? If they are connected directly to one another make sure that you have a crossover cable.

    Well, they are connected through crossover cables. Telephone plugs-like. Yes, as I mentioned I followed tutorials on setting up data sharing using netbeui protocol, hence I've got all the necessary software configured correctly. One of them has got on board davicom nic, the other one has got pci zonet-nic.

    All computer sees is itself, nothing else. I reinstalled it twice. not working.

    Okey Dokey, then it can only be one or more of three things if it isn't software:
    • The Cable
    • The Davicom NIC
    • The zonet-nic


    I would start with the cable or have it tested at your local computer shop.

    You will need to setup your network to use TCP/IP if you would like to share your internet connection.
