Wireless WAN/MAN
I am looking for a cost-effective way to link an office that is about 3/4 of a mile from a current office in an area where tying into the frame relay would cost about $1800 per month (T1) and the current 64k PPP connection runs $600/mo. A friend advised a system he sells that can go 2 miles with 128 bit encryption but needs line of sight (don't know if I have or not.) Is anyone using this technology right now? How reliable is it? Can it go through trees? Any input/feedback would be appreciated.

Not sure about that technology, but you could probably setup a cheap VPN to do the job.

Wireless broadband has reached our area & a co-worker tried it at a customer site & said the speed was great.
I would have similar questions to yours:
Is it seasonally affected? (Foliage)
Fog\smog affected?
I assume his solution uses similar technology to what they are using for wireless Internet. Can they show you a working demo?
Weather affected?
This link touts "Non Line-of-Sight" fixed wireless;

I'd be interested in what you find out.

why not just get a adsl connection at 1.5mbps and do a vpn though it. it would be more cost effective then leasing specialty equipment
