Missing Prorocols & Sevices
Got an unusual problem on a client's PC. The client is running Windows ME.
I wanted to re-install "File & Printer Sharing" in their network configuration. But when you go in to network properties and click the ADD button it only lists Client & Adapter. Protocol & Service are missing from the list !?
I have tried re-installing Windows ME but it made no difference.
I have a feeling that it may be caused by a missing or damaged windows .INF file.
Anybody any suggestions.

I would think it's a policy or a registry setting to avoid installing file and print services..
but it might be a bad *.inf file..
first try to see if a "nopolicy.inf" file would help ..
copy this text to a file and call it "nopolicy.inf"
--------------------------------------------
[Version]
signature="$CHICAGO$"
[DefaultInstall]
DelReg=NoPol
[NoPol]
HKCU,Software\microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies,
---------------------------------------------
right click this file and select "install"
see if you can add the service.
if not it's probably some corrupted *.inf or installtion..
don't install over - rename the windows folder and install a fresh copy of ME...
Hope it helps

I doubt its a policy issue as it is on a home network, there are no policies in use.
Anybody know which .inf file controls the networking properties?

dumb question:
Have you installed an adapter yet? You can only bind a protocol to an adapter... so if you have none - no go!
