firewall
I have a dlink di704 cable router and have noticed that the wan light, on it, and the data transfer light on my cable modem have been blinking like data has been coming in through the cable connection. It happens even when my computers are shut off.
I was wondering if there's any firewall software that can tell me if there are unwanted incoming packets or not. Thanks in advance.

Checkout Gnatbox
They have a free firewall available for download over here...
It might not be top of the range, but it's free, easy to configure and great for home use.

sounds like it could be the code red worm. open your browser and go into your router and view the log, its under Tools on the menu. see if you have alot of attempts on port 80. If you do its prolly the worm. nothing to worry about unless your running NT/2000 with IIS 4 or 5 installed. If you are then theres a patch on Microsofts web site

Try Zone Alarm, It's a free download for home use, easy to configure and it logs attempts to access your computer. Log will give you the IP address and what port they were trying to access and how. You can also check your firewall status by going to www.dslreports.com where you can do online tests for free
