Post Remote Printing in Netware 5

I am completely new to NetWare.

    Here is the situation:

Server with Netware 5. Does not have PConsole or any other DOS-based programs besides "SERVER.EXE" (it has only the standard NLM modules). I have admin rights to the server, but the only non-console app is Novell's Console1.

All client machines are Win98 machines. Novell Network, client32. One client has a Lexmark dot-matrix printer I want to be able to share across the network (i.e. remote printing).

This is the problem: I have no clue how to do this. All the manuals and tutorials I have found reference the DOS TSRs such as PConsole, and Capture (None of the machines have these files, and TSRs rarely work under Windows. Other manuals talk about setting up a print queue and a print server, then pointing the print server to the destination, but I haven't the foggiest idea how to do this either.

Any help at all would be welcome.

    You need this link: <a href="http://support.novell.com/search/kb_index.jsp" target="_blank">http://support.novell.com/search/kb_index.jsp</a>
This has saved my bacon many times. Probably one of the most comprehensive knowledgebases on the internet. Documentation for all Novell products is also searchable here. Link: <a href="http://www.novell.com/documentation/" target="_blank">http://www.novell.com/documentation/</a>

BTW, the command you are looking for is called NPRINTER. Here are some TID's to get you started:
    <a href="http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/1202386.htm" target="_blank">http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/1202386.htm</a>
    <a href="http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/nw5/usprint/printenu/data/hpxi6dgq.html" target="_blank">http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/nw5/usprint/printenu/data/hpxi6dgq.html</a>

ConsoleOne is the all-in-one replacement for former tools like SYSCON or PCONSOLE. Get to know it and know it well, it is going to be your best friend. Almost all Network Administration tasks are handled through ConsoleOne.

PCONSOLE is really obsolete, because that functionality is now handled through the Windows interface. Just go to Start>Settings>Printers and double click on the printer. What you'll see is the entire Netware printer queue for that printer, not your local queue. Depending on permissions, you can then manipulate the contents of the queue.

The other critical utility you'll likely find useful is RconsoleJ. You can find this on your server here: \\servername\sys\public\mgmt\ConsoleOne\1.2\rconj. exe. Basically it allows you to view what's happening on the server console without being at the server. Might not be useful if you are in the same room as the server, but if the server is in a different building or even city, it will save you tons of time.
