8x cdrw... but fails at 8x burning...
A small, but annoying problemo
I've got a PHILIPS 800 series CDRW ide.
8x4x32
Using Nero v5.0.0.9 I can burn disks at no problem at 6x, but 8x always fails. It's not a buffer under run, but some error about not finding end of track. It usually gets to 60%, then bombs out.
I'm using IMATION 16x CDR's.. The drive is on Primary Slave, and I'm copying from Secondary master, so it's not on the same channel.
Anyone have any ideas??? (DMA mode is off, cos it kept hanging up)
Using Win98se, on EPOX KT3A, with VIAKT133a chipset, and Athlon1000.
kind regards
Schui

1. Update your Nero to the current version: 5.0.4.8
- you can find it here : http://www.ahead.de/en/download.htm
2. Install VIA 4-in-1 Driver Version 4.29 Get it here
http://www.viatech.com/drivers/index_new2.htm
3. Make Sure you're running the latest firmware for you drive, you caan get firmware upgrades : http://www.ahead.de/en/firmware.htm
or
here http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/
4. Make Sure you Have the Latest BIOS for your Motherboard
5. If you can , move the Drive to be Secondary Master - and use a 40-pin IDE cable
6. After you done all this -- try to enable UDMA or DMA for the CD-RW.. it should solve your problems.
Hope you find it helpful

Here's a small check list:
1. Verify that this version of Nero supports your CD-RW unit. Check also Nero's FAQs.
2. Connect the CD-RW as Secondary Master.
3. Download and install the latest drivers (if available) for your motherboard's chipset.
4. Try another blank-CD brand.
5. Check the CD-ROM unit also. Is it working properly?
6. If it still doesn't burn at 8x, check it on another machine if possible.
Good luck!

Condor...
thanx for your speedy reply...
I just downloaded the Nero update, and the 4-1 patch.
I don't think there is a firmware update for my cdrw... it's not on the list.. so I'll check the philips site.. I know they're not hot on updates, but fingers crossed!
ps it's a 32x8x4 Philips 4804 (PCRW804K)

Don't perform firmware upgrade! This is always the last option as it may damage the drive.
