Network 2 different subnets w/o router
Is it possible to network 2 different computers on 2 different subnets without using a server/router? I have a cable modem with 4 avail ips. 3 ips are on 1 subnet. The 4th is on a different subnet. Any suggestions?

I think you have to use a router for that. Not absolutely sure though.

if you want direct file sharing between the pcs it would be better to bind a second instance of tcpip to the network adapter in control panel and use private ips on those that way you files would be more secure(if that is what you wanna do).

You might want to try a software proxy.

Definitely no... but you can do some workarounds:
- Use secondary IP-Adresses on all PC's and put them together on a logical non-official network. But pay attention: I think NetBEUI-via-TCP/IP binds to primary adresses so you must have the non-officials there to be able to connect (not sure!)
- configure ipx/spx if you don't need tcp/ip for the IntraNet-connection
- You can use a software-router on one PC... you don't have to have multiple NIC's in. Beware: If you have two official IP-subnets you can run into severe routing problems with your provider (probably your routing won't work right then as your ISP will not support your config)
Check it out and perhaps give more details...
