    Resolved [RESOLVED] Shares on WIN9X

    Hi,

I have a small network running with an NT SERVER and some
workstations running on WIN 9X, NT and 2000.
    Here is my question concerning my WIN9x clients;

I tried to configure access to the WIN98 shares on a user level.
(I want to be able to use remote administration on these machine)
when i set up my shares with access on a user level i see all the accounts
of the domain but the problem is when another workstation tries to access the share on the network
i get the message "Access server non-available" and cant access the share even though
this workstation have the rights for it...Seems like the nt server cant validate access to the share.
    What am i doing wrong?

When you right click on the folder you want to share and you click properties then you click share as then you click add to add users then you click the appropriate roles of the users. Does this happen on all 9x workstations or just one. Is there any problem with your network communication? What protocols are you using?

There's no problem that i'm aware of, everything else works fine.

This is happening on all 9X worstations when i try to put access on a user level if i'm using the share with pwd or read only there's no problem, its really with the validation but i dont know why..

    I'm using tcp/ip.

check the network properties and make sure that you change it to user access. Then have it retreive a list of users from your domain.

Yep, all that is fine, i retreive the list with no problem but when i try to access the
workstation on the network from another pc , i see it but cant access it.

*correction from earlier post, i dont see the shares, i get the message that "the workstation is inaccessible (but only when i put access on user level) and that there's no access server available at the moment to deal with the request". I have no problem to access the workstation with the shares from the server but i get the same message from any other pc...

Plz keep in mind that those message are translated from french OS...

    Cool

    Hi There,
I had the same problem yesterday. Your workstations cannot see your Nt4 server for verification of the users by the server to authorise the share access and to validate their rights. Check if the workstation is set to log into an Nt domin under you client for MS networks and is accepted by the server. Can you see the workstations from the Nt4 server ?
