Post No time like the present I'd say

    Ranting here:
I've had it! Not only does our company's U.S. "superiors" tie our hands here as far as maintaining our servers, what we can do with our PCs, and only granting us certain "privilages" to maintaining our local network environment. But they have the gall to treat us like we're no better than the crud they scrap off thier shoe!
I e-mailed a question to one such person in the U.S., asking why a password had been put on one of my programs and how would I work around it if I was unaware of the password when this is done to our user's PCs (which will happen in the near future). His response to me was "Yes. The support staff will know the password."
    SUPPORT STAFF???
At this point in time, my job function is Assistant Network Administrator. My boss, the Manager of Network/Telecommunications, has ensured I have full access and privilages to everything she does, which is basically all of our company resources accross Canada, and he has the audacity to talk down to me such as he did???? I personally don't care if he's thinking I'm no better than someone who knows nothing more than how to smack keys on a keyboard, if I'm told how to do it, but to actually say it? If it didn't mean leaving my boss in a pickle, having to retrain someone to take over for her when she retires (early) in 5 years, I'd be out the door tomorrow!
Well, time to bone up on the old resume I'd say!
    Finished ranting now.

Sorry about the long post folks...this was just bugging the $h1t out of me!

Well, I thought we admins in the States were the ones put in charge of all the passwords?

I say it's time to break out the - hum - "covert" admin utilities to recover the information (such as passwords) you need to do your job as expected.

Or then prepare letters to cover yourself if you can't have what you need to do your job properly.

Oh yeah - "Support Staff" indeed.

LOL I love it! I am reading this post whilst watching the episode of the Simpsons where they visit Canada.

Hay Sunshine I heard something funny on the CBC this morning, hope you get a chuckle out of it. It goes something to the effect of:

When it came time to create the nation of Canada God gathered his angles and said I will make this nation the greatest on earth. Canada will have the highest literacy rates on the continent; Canadians will live longer than anyone else in North America. The Canadians will have the richest natural resources on earth; they will be able to feed over half the nations of the world. Canadians will enjoy the highest standard of living on the planet at the end of the twentieth century. Canada will have ... . At this point the Angle Gabriel interrupts to suggest to God that perhaps Canada is receiving an undue portion of divine attention. God responds with "I don't think so, just wait until you see who I give them for neighbors". <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Another CBC chuckle in regard to the massive US farm subsides, pink commies, was that the USA views Canada like Ottawa sees Saskatchewan.
No need to be concerned. The voices in my head assure me I am completely sane.

Before you all read this, I mean NO disrespect to any of you WD folks. You have to be some of the nicest, knowledgable people I've come across in quite some time! This is just a continuation to the first rant.

Why, oh why, do some people in power in the U.S. have to be so upity?? They must have total control over OUR servers, OUR users, OUR programs...at all times!
Do they not realize we're in a totally different environment? We run different programs than they do...and for good reason. We buy all our equipment in Canada...just to avoid delays at customs...or we'd be forced to buy everything from the U.S.
If there's ever been a case of 'Big Brother', it's with these people at our "Head Office". I love my job, and love working with the people here. Just give me the @$%&*! resources to do my job as it needs to be done!!!
My boss has even stated her anger at the policies in place. She's the smartest woman I know, yet when she comes up with an idea, they don't acknowledge it...cause it came from a woman in Canada! We know this to be true...cause she's mentioned a way of doing something, had it shot down, then mentioned by someone in the U.S. months later only to have "What a great idea! We should do that!" be said. Just once, I'd love to have someone there give credit where credit is due!

Once again my friends.... this is NOT directed at anyone who comes here!!! As I said, you folks are the best, and I really appreciate the chance to get this off my chest... before I explode!

    I'm feeling much better now
